Leaf-cutter ants (Atta Sexdens) are found from Costa Rica to
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, with some species reaching as far
north as Texas. They typically live in tropical rain forest and
can be seen all over most rain-forest floors. These ants are a great
source of protein for humans and are still eaten in parts of Mexico.
Folklore also claims that Indians used the jaws of an Atta soldier as
sutures to hold together the edges of a wound.
